Deputy Reps Speaker Sues For Political Solution To Release IPOB Leader
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider a political solution for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
Speaking at the National Assembly in Abuja Friday, Kalu emphasized the need for dialogue in addressing the issue.
He commended President Tinubu for his continuous commitment to peace, development, and stability in the South-East, highlighting the President’s swift assent to the South East Development Commission Bill, a feat that previous assemblies failed to achieve.
Kalu noted that the people of the region deeply appreciate these efforts and remain grateful for the President’s support.
While acknowledging the strides, he appealed for a compassionate approach, urging the President to temper justice with mercy by facilitating Kanu’s release.
He stressed that resolving this matter politically would not only ease tensions but also create a more conducive environment for the development initiatives under the SEDC.
Expressing confidence in the President’s ability to act in the best interest of national unity, Kalu maintained that Kanu’s release would significantly reduce insecurity in the region and pave the way for progress and stability.
