The House of Representatives has mandated its Committee on Health to interface with relevant government agencies to ensure inclusion of  locally developed remedies for the treatment of COVID-19 are included in the clinical trials by the World Health Organization under its "Solidarity initiative."

The decision was reached after consideration of a motion raised by Representative Prestige Ossy at Tuesday’s plenary.

Representative Ossy had drawn the attention of the lower chamber, to the fact that Madagascar a small African Country took their destinies in their hands and developed a herbal formula for the treatment of COVID-19 Patients from a medicinal plant Artemisia Annua, which their herbal research institutes have been studying for over 30 years.

The house also deliberated on a motion seeking the release of one Mrs Susan Idoko Okpe, who was quarantined by the Benue State Government following misinformation and Diagnoses of COVID-19.

Mover of the motion, Blessing Onuh had argued that the details of Mrs Susan ldoko-Okpe is not consistent with that ' of the lady who the government claimed was referred from Benue State Teaching Hospital, Makurdi to Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital, Abuja.

Onuh also alleged that Idoko was also being forced to take treatment for COVID-19 even in her asymptomatic state.

The House mandated the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) through the federal ministry of health to critically evaluate her as a matter of urgency and if proved otherwise, should be allowed to go home.

In the same vein Honorable Aishatu Jibril Dukku, Member, Representing Dukku/Nafada Federal Constituency, Gombe State also drew the attention of the lower chamber to the urgent need to look into the evacuation 0f Almajiris amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

She recalled that the statement issued by the Northern Governors Forum on Tuesday 21st April 2020 banned the Almajiri system of education and evacuates the children back to their parents or states of origin saying the decision has so far jeopardized the ongoing fight against COVID-19 due to the high level of movement of the children from different places.
