Experts Expresses Reservation For Implementation Of Agricultural Policies In Nigeria.
Experts in the field of Agriculture have described inconsistency in Federal Government Agricultural policy as the bane of development of the sector.
Professor Akin Omotayo and Professor Esther Afoami from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State maintained that the Agricultural policies in Nigeria are in tune with the best practices but the problem lies in the area of implementation.

Food, no doubt is one of the basic necessity of life as man, even animals cannot survive without food. However, in a situation where food insecurity persist, human existence is under serious threat.
However, one of the ways to ensure food security in any government is the need for government to put in place appropriate policies and action plans that will ensure availability of food for the people.
Experts in the field of food production and security from the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Prof. Akin Omotayo and Prof. Elizabeth Afolami, maintained that over the year, Nigerian government had initiated good policies in the Agricultural sector but the problem has been with lack of consistency.
They condemned the who condemned the situation where some of the food items that can be produced locally are being imported from other land stressing that, the problem is with the implementation of various agricultural policies of the government.
Prof. Omotayo and Prof. Afolami decried the neglect of the Agricultural sector by those who suppose to be at the vanguard of the sector saying, the highest number of the aged in the field portend serious threat and was an indication of food security in the land.
The Experts maintained that for sanity to be restored into the sector, government agricultural policies must be implemented to the letter, while round peg must be put in round hole in order to ensure food security in the land.
The food experts urged the government in the Southwest to realise the implication of the impending danger ahead and give the much needed attention to food production.
