Mass Rice Farming Underway in Akure, Ondo State
Looking outward to overcome the present scourging economic meltdown in Nigeria, Ondo state government under the leadership of governor Olusegun Mimiko has perfected a modern way of rice farming.
Sooner than later, Ondo state will be producing en-mass rice for local consumption and exportation to other countries.
To achieve this, Ondo state government has engaged a private operator from Malaysia to train Ondo state youth and interested farmers on the modern way of rice farming. The development is expected to impart the lives of the Ondo state youth and as well contribute to economic status of the state.
It will be recall that, revenue derivable through crude oil is on the fall in Nigeria and one area people feel government should turn to is agriculture.
A pilot farm which was organized for training program is a success and ready for harvest.
The pilot farm that was situated in Ogbese in Akure north local government is to serve as a test run for the new system of rice farming as it is being done in Malaysia.
This is part of the move of the Mimiko administration to make farming as a sector to tackle unemployment and ensure food security, speaking with journalists during a visit to the rice farm, the executive governor of Ondo state governor Olusegun Mimiko said the new technology if adopted in Ondo state will improve rice farming.
In his own word, the leader of the Malaysia expatriates Anas Ahmed, the new technology is easy and result oriented if properly managed.
