ALLEGED N2.9BILLION FRAUD: Okorocha Remains in EFCC Custody until Bail Conditions are Met
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered that former Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha be remanded in EFCC custody until he perfects the bail conditions granted him in the sum of N500million.
The serving Senator, who has six other co-defendants, is being tried by the EFCC for allegedly converting to his personal use proceeds from the sale of state-owned property to the tune of N2.9 billion.
Ruling on Okorocha's application for bail, the trial judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo said due to the circumstances of his case, he can not be granted bail on self-recognizance despite being a former governor and current serving Senator.
Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that other bail conditions granted to the presidential aspirant are a surety who must be a responsible resident in Abuja who owns landed property. The Court also ordered the deposit of his international passport with the Court registrar.
For the second defendant, Anyim Nyerere Chinenye, Justice Ekwo, orders he be bound by the earlier administrative bail condition granted him by the EFCC had not jumped bail.
Meanwhile, counsel to Okorocha has expressed confidence in perfecting the bail conditions on time, early enough possibly to make the APC screening of Presidential aspirants.November 7th to 11th 2022 has been scheduled for trial.
