A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has fixed 10 April for hearing of an application by former Abia State governor, Orji Uzor Kalu, seeking to stop his retrial by the EFCC.

The matter which was scheduled for this Tuesday could not go ahead on account of improper service of the court processes on the EFCC.

Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that EFCC's lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs had faulted the mode of service, informing the court that the process was served on him instead of the Federal government.

Following that, Justice Inyang Ekwo ordered Kalu's lawyer, Awa Kalu [SAN] to ensure proper service be made within seven days, adding that hearing on the application will commence on 20 April, the next adjourned date.

Kalu, alongside his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited, and former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu, stood trial for alleged fraud to the tune of about N7.1billion.

The ex-Abia governor and senator representing Abia North at the National Assembly was already serving his 12-year jail term at the Kuje Prison when the Supreme Court nullified his conviction by Justice Idris Mohammed of a Federal High Court, Lagos on technical ground.
