Deputy Speaker Hail President Tinubu Over Assent Of SEDC
The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for signing the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill into law.
Hon. Kalu described the assent as a "legislative victory" and "historical milestone" for the South East geopolitical zone.
Responding the presidential assent the Deputy speaker said the SEDC will manage funds from the Federation Account to Reconstruct and rehabilitate roads, houses, and other infrastructure damaged during the civil war, Address ecological problems and environmental challenges in the South-East states of Abia, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi).
He noted that the assent marks the beginning of the South-East's complete reconstruction since the civil war, demonstrating the government's commitment to rehabilitation and development of the region.
Honorable Kalu also urged Nigerians, particularly the youth, not to participate in the scheduled August 1 protest, as more development projects that will unite the country are underway.
This commission became successful after the bill failed in the 8th and 9th assemblies despite lobbying efforts by lawmakers. END
