Expert proffers solution to food shortages
A former commissioner of Commerce and a large scale farmer in Kano state, Alhaji Rabiu Ahmed says nationwide adoption of mechanization farming is the only escape route for Nigeria against impending food shortages that would occur after the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
He said the nation can no longer afford to be nonchalant in its efforts to ensure proper food security for the country.
He added that the starting point is an improvement on seedlings, fertilizer types and then the usage of advanced mechanization farming methods.
It would be recalled that Galaxy TV reported that All Farmers Association of Nigeria recently donated three tractors to each state of the federation including the federal capital territory. The Former commerce commissioner said the tractors would go a long way in improving agricultural production in the nation at large if they are put to proper usage.
The United Nations had recently warned that food insecurity is the next challenge the global community is going to face after the novel coronavirus pandemic is over.
