FG Committed to Curbing Nutrition Insecurities in Nigeria
The Honorable Minister of State for Budget and National Planning, Prince Clem Agba, has said the Government in collaboration with the Nutrition Society is committed to curbing food and Nutrition insecurities in Nigeria.
Prince Agba said this at the 2020 Nigeria Nutrition week during the ministerial press briefing as the ministry and the Nutrition Society of Nigeria flag off the annual Nutrition Week to raise awareness about malnutrition among Nigerian children.
Agba said estimates showing up to 2.5million children under age five affected by severe acute malnutrition which is worrisome and calls for emergency measures to reverse the trend.
He further said this year's theme "Nutrition: The Bedrock For economic Development was carefully selected to further drive the high importance the ministry attaches to nutrition as a prerequisite for national development.
The minister of state, Budget and National planning affirms that in eradicating malnutrition for sustainable economic growth and development in Nigeria lots of activities are lined up for the celebration of Nutrition Week.
He called for increased breastfeeding by mothers, improved hygiene, stating that the fight against malnutrition in Nigeria should not be left for the federal government alone but a collective effort by individuals and the private sector.
