Fire outbreak consume family of four alive
A Fire outbreak has claimed a family of four, a man, wife and two children at a residence located in Quararafa quarter's in Makurdi local government area of Benue state
The man, Seker Akaa, an acting permanent Secretary with the state Ministry of Science and Technology and his family were burnt alive according to an eyewitness, a chaplain who said the incident occurred at about 2:45 am late last night when everyone was fast as sleep.
The eyewitness attributed the fire outbreak to possible power upsurge which they say has become a recurring decimal in Makurdi.
They said the family made attempt to escape but failed due to heavily fortified doors even with effort fire service and policemen as at the time they break opened the children, wife and father had died.
While residents troop out in their numbers to catch glimpse of what has happened some close relative and neighbours were seen shedding tears as the remains have been deposited at the federal medical centre Makurdi.
Meanwhile the Police Public relation officer, DSP Catherine Anene, who condoled with the family, said police is investigating the circumstances that lead to their death.
