Ibadan crisis: Police arrests sergeant
The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Mr. Shina Olukolu, has disclosed that the police officer that shot an Okada rider in Ibadan yesterday has been arrested and he is in police custody.
Olukoku while reacting to the incident through a statement issued in Ibadan disclosed that the matter is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Oyo State Police Command .
Giving an account of what happened, the Commissioner of Police disclosed that a six-man police patrol team from Alakia Adelubi Division led by an inspector left their office on morning duty patrol and sighted a motorcyclist with an unusual numbers of passengers, four in all, who was ordered to stop but refused.
According to him, there was a scuffle and they all fell down, while other passengers on the bike took to their heels, a bullet hit the rider on the left elbow and grazed his ribs.
He condemned the mob action on other officers at the scene as well as the damage done to the police vehicle. The Commissioner of Police enjoined all and sundry to refrain from taking the laws into their hands in case of any occurrence.
