A member of the House of Representatives says the prevalence of fake news in the country now makes Nigerians question the integrity of the media in present time where information is the key driver of society.

Hon. Olaide Akinremi representing Ibadan North in the lower legislative chamber said the issue of publishing unverified news items is counterproductive and is fast eroding what the mainstream media stands for.

He, therefore, called for effective and thorough background checks on the news before heading to press or broadcast.
