The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has been advised to consider penalizing universities that are not utilizing the Fund’s projects and emphasize the need for a proper assessment of how the funds are utilized

The president of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Prof Emmanuel Osodeke, made the appeal at one day sensitization workshop for Heads of Beneficiary Institutions on Career Service Centres, Teaching Practice, Beneficiary Identity Management Service (BIMS) and Hostel Development.

GALAXY TV reports that Asuu President also lamented the dissolution of the Federal Universities Governing Councils by President Bola Tinubu.
He also decried the neglect of the education sector by successive governments, pointing out that Nigeria ranked lowest in education budgets across the West African subregion.

Earlier in his remarks, the Executive Secretary Tertiary Education Trust Fund Arc Sonny Echono, said the Fund has introduced a Career Service Center intervention program to enable students make informed decisions regarding their career paths.

Echono said in the year 2024 disbursement cycle, the Career Services Center was introduced to complement other programs in tertiary institutions adding that, the Fund considers the establishment of these centers necessary for the development of students careers and their employability, which is the reason for establishment of tertiary educational institutions.

The Acting Executive secretary National University Commission (NUC) Prof Chris Maiyaki who was represented by the Acting Director of student NUC Rita Okonjo said NUC will continue to support the interventions of TETFUND
