Tinubu Seeks Approval for FCCPC Chairman's Removal.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has written to the Senate, seeking confirmation for the removal of Babatunde Irukera, Chairman of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC).
This was revealed in a letter read during Tuesday's plenary by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Galaxy tv News reports that Tinubu also requested confirmation for Oluwole Andama as the Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund in the Nigerian Midstream, Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
In his contribution, Senator Suileman Abhularahman Kau- Kano south, while urging that the affairs of the nation should be carry out constitutionally, pointed that that the Irukera was sacked without letter of disengagement.
The Senate subsequently entered an executive session to discuss urgent national matters. The reasons for the sack were not disclosed, but the move follows Irukera's removal from FCCPC three weeks earlier.
The presidency cited plans to restructure and reposition critical agencies to protect consumer rights and boost contributions to the nation's economy. Earlier, the President had suspended Dr Betta Edu, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, amid allegations of misappropriating N585m.
