Trail of Obiano stalled at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The trial of the Former Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano was stalled following a fresh application filed before Justice Nyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Justice Ekwo had at the last adjourned date fixed the trial for 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th of March, 2024.
The immediate-past governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has arrived at the Abuja division of the Federal High Court before 9am, in company of some officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
He is being arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over an alleged money laundering to the tune of N4,008,573,350.
Obiano was accused to have moved N4,008,573,350 from security votes into different accounts. The money at various times was changed into dollars and returned to Obiano by cash.
Galaxy tv reports that at the resumed hearing on the matter today, Counsel to the defendant, Onyechi Ipeazu, informed the court of an application from his Client seeking the leave of the court to quash all the charges.
He promised the application on the failure of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to establish a primary facea case against his client.
Responding, Counsel to the Anti Graft Commission, Slyvanus Tahir informed the court that the application was served on him this morning and the need for him to study it and respond accordingly.
On this premise, Justice Ekwo therefore adjourned the matter till Thursday 7th of March for hearing of the application filed by the embattled Governor..
