Chibok Girls: Rise Up To Your Responsibility, Malala Tells Jonathan

International girl-child education  campaigner, Malala Yousafzai today looked Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan in the face and told him to wake up to his responsibility as the nation’s leader  by ensuring that the over 200 schoolgirls abducted in Chibok, Borno state since April 14 by Boko Haram are immediately brought back home.

The 17 year old paskitani activist made the call when she was received in audience by President Jonathan at the State House, Abuja. But narrating what transpired between her andJonathan during the Malala Day Speech in later today in Abuja, Malala said she told Jonathan that as the elected President of Nigeria, he needed to fulfil his responsibility.

According to her: ”my brothers and sisters, one thing about today which was very important was my meeting with the Honourable President, Mr Goodluck Jonathan. I met him today and I told him that I use the voice of my sisters; I am representing my sisters and their parents to you today. And as you are the elected President, you need to fulfil your responsibility. I told him that you need to fulfil your responsibility and your responsibility is to listen to your people who are saying bring back our girls.

“And luckily, the President did make two promises. He made two promises to me and to you and to the people of his country. He promised that the government will do the best option to bring back the girls alive and safe. And the second promise he made is very important. He promised to meet the parents of those girls who were abducted. And I am hopeful that he will fulfil it.”

While condemning the activities of the insurgent group, Malala asked Boko Haram to stop misusing the name of Islam, stressing that Islam is a religion of peace which enjoins both girls and boys to get education by going to school.
