Emenike Back To Action
Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike finally returned to action in Spartak Moscow’s 2-0 win over Anzhi Makhachkala at the Olimpiyskiy Stadiun yesterday morning.
Emenike came on for Artem Dzyuba in the 54th minute, with Spartak leading 1-0 after Scottish winger Aiden McGeady helped Kim Kallstrom put Spartak in front as early as the 5th minute.
Dmitriy Kombarov doubled Spartak’s advantage from the penalty spot in the 69th minute to seal the win for the home side that have moves up to fourth place on the Russian Premier League table, three points off Anzhi and thirteen points off Ahmed Musa’s CSKA Moscow who occupy top spot.
Emenike, who has been injured since Nigeria’s semi-final encounter against Mali at the Nations Cup in February, has not featured for either club or country since then.
Emenike’s return will be a welcome relieve for Coach Dmitry Gunko’s team as the Moscovites have battled for consistency in the absence of the Nigerian striker, with Dzyuba and newly-acquired Ghanaian international Abdul Waris appearing ineffective in his absence.
