No 2014 World Cup For Alampasu, Others
Golden Eaglets stars like Dele Alampasu, Isaac Success, Kelechi Iheanacho, Taiwo Awoniyi among others who shone like a million stars at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates have no chance of making the Nigerian squad to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Super Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi made the decision in Lagos yesterday. “The FIFA World Cup is too far for the U-17 players. If they were U-20s, perhaps, one could have given it a consideration.”
Keshi who invited three of the World Cup winning U-17 squad members to the pre-CHAN camp and eventually took Dele Alampasu to South Africa for the championship proper, said the players have to pass through the ranks and eventually graduate to the senior national team.
The statement yesterday by the coach put paid to speculations that at least one member of the 2013 Golden Eaglets that won a historic 4th FIFA U-17 World Cup for Nigeria would make it to Brazil
