TV Rights: BON Unsure About Televising Afcon 2013 Matches

Feeders coming from the broadcasting organisation of Nigeria(BON),the umbrella body of the electronic media in Nigeria is anything to go by,Nigerians may have to rely on foreign electronic media to watch the 2013 orange African cup of nation which kicks off in South Africa on the 16th of this month.

Briefing newsmen today in Abuja on the status of broadcast rights for the matches,the chairman,broadcasting organisation of Nigeria(BON)Mallam Abubakar Jijiwa disclosed that there is presently a deadlock on the issue of the night price to pay to the broadcast nights owner,LC2.

According to Jijiwa who also doubles as the director general of the voice of Nigeria,(VON) the 8million Euros,CC2,the hosting rights owner is asking for this time is unrealistic owing to the economic realities of the nation.

He also attributed  other factors which includes low Footballing activities within the nations league in recent times and the branding of the nations cup as orange African nations cup as some of the major reasons why BON cannot accept the amount the nights owner is asking for.

The chairman however assured Nigerians that all hope is not lost yet as the matter has been reported to all the appropriate quarters for necessary actions,just as the organisation according to him is proposing to pay 300,000 Euros for selected matches for Nigerians to watch on terrestrial stations

The nations cup which is holding in south Africa,kicks off on the 16th of January,2013.
