Police Arrest 84 Suspects for Sundry Crimes
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a total of 84 suspects in January 2025, including 32 apprehended through the NPF-National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) and 52 by the Police Special Fraud Unit (PSFU) in Lagos. While addressing journalists in Abuja, Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi attributed these successes to the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Action Plan aimed at restoring Nigeria’s global reputation and removing the country from the FATF Grey List.
Galaxy Television reports that among those arrested were nine suspects involved in cyber-related crimes just as a two man syndicate, Saidu Usman and Yusuf Umar, were nabbed for creating and distributing compromised financial accounts used in fraudulent transactions totaling over ₦400 million. Recruited via Telegram by an unidentified foreign cybercriminal, Saidu created Moniepoint financial profiles using pre-registered SIM cards and email addresses, while Yusuf fraudulently obtained BVNs and personal details from individuals in his community to upgrade the accounts to Tier 5 verification.
Also operatives raided a cybercriminal hideout at Ipent 2 Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja, on January 31, apprehending two suspects, Irhene Efe Wealth and Irhene Godstime . ACP Adejobi reaffirmed the police force’s commitment to tackling cybercrime and bringing perpetrators to justice. He urged the public to be cautious when engaging in online transactions and to verify the legitimacy of financial dealings to avoid falling victim to cybercriminals.
