Speaker Abbas Meets British Parliament Reaffirms Support for Gender Inclusion

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has reaffirmed the commitment of the 10th House to achieving gender inclusion in politics and governance. Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the British Parliament on Monday, he emphasized ongoing constitutional reforms aimed at ensuring gender parity.
He highlighted the diversity of the 10th House, which, for the first time, comprises representatives from seven political parties. The Speaker revealed that proposed constitutional amendments include reserving 33% of parliamentary seats and 30% of non-elective government positions for women, drawing inspiration from Uganda and Tanzania.
Kate Osamor, leader of the UK delegation, expressed interest in Nigeria’s approach to diversity and gender inclusivity.
