The Amalgamated Union of Foodstuffs and Cattle Dealers in Nigeria (AUFCDN), has called off its nationwide strike.

The union had embarked on industrial action to protest the alleged killing of its members and destruction of their goods and property

Rising from a multi-stakeholder reconciliatory meeting convened by the governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in Abuja Wednesday, President AUFCDN, Comrade Muhammad Tahir, said the decision to call off the strike was reached following the government's promise to pay the N4.75billion demanded as compensation.

Tahir said the meeting also promised to at all times, secure its members and stop all forms of multiple taxation and extortions of their members, particularly on the highways.

Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello had earlier appealed to the Union to shelve its strike, promising to follow up and ensure the union's demands were met.

Bello said the strike had led to increase in the hardship majority of Nigerians were already going through, including members of the aggrieved union appealing to the union, to call off the strike and allow movement of foodstuffs and cattle to all parts of the country. 

He assured them of government intervention to ensure that their demands are met.

Former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani Kayode who spoke on behalf of the West and Southern divide, said the impact of the strike was too heavy to ignore, adding that the killing of any Hausa-Fulani or traders engaged in legal business activities would no longer be tolerated or accepted.

Appealing to the Federal Government to be committed towards addressing the menace of killer Fulani herdsmen in the forests, Fakayode gave his words that nobody including Sunday Adeyemo will molest anyone in the southwest.

About one hundred and fifty-one foodstuff vendors lost their lives during the #EndSARS protest and another 100 in the Shasha market crisis.

About 100 trucks and 100 salon cars were also damaged in addition to other properties destroyed.

AUFCDN comprising of 75 independent unions withdraw its services nationwide, following the Federal Government failure to meet its demands within a seven-day ultimatum issued earlier.
