AGF Hails New Supreme Court Rules

The Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) has described the new Supreme Court rule as a significant step towards strengthening Judicial System in Nigeria. Fagbemi made the revelation while speaking at a special court session organised by the Supreme Court in honour of Late Justice Stanley Alagoa, in Abuja on Wednesday.

Galaxy Television reports that the Attorney General and Minister of Justice said the initiative equally represents a shift towards accountable legal and judicial practices. According to him, the rule has an innovative provisions which aims and address the long standing procedural issues and inefficiencies in the 1985 rules which often led to procedural objections and delay in their purposes.

He lauded the contributions of Late Justice Alagoa to the Judiciary saying he had left an indelible mark in the sand of time. Earlier, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere Ekun described the Late Justice as a courageous and dogged fighter for his beliefs adding that he maintained his convictions with wisdom and strong desire to uphold truth and fairness.

The representative of the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and the President, Nigeria Bar Association, Said the late Justice Alagoa Humility, kindness and Wisdom endeared him to all who crossed his path.
