Benue, ASUU Calls 0r Review Of 2009 Draft, More Varsities Funding.
Nsukka zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU - Nsukka zone), have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take a cursory look at the plight of Nigerian public universities and its workers with a view to finding lasting solutions to it.
The Nsukka zonal coordinator of ASUU, Comrade Raphael Amokaha, made the appeal in Makurdi, that universities lecturers can no longer breath as they are been suffocated by withholding its eight month salaries and earned academic allowance, they appeal for the review of the 2009 draft agreement.
The zonal ASUU called for their complete payment and adequate funding of public universities as well as the disengagement from IPPIS whether new or old, just as they declare implicit confidence in the national leadership of ASUU.
While they described as unacceptable situations where universities have been turned into business centers, kicked against proliferation of more private varsities, saying it further drops the quality in Education.
ASUU - Nsukka, maintained that the review of varsities curriculum can only be done by the university senate and not Nigeria University Commission, (NUC), just as they question the interference of National Assembly into TETfund.
Galaxy tv reports that the Nsukka Zone of ASUU, comprises Benue State University, Enugu State University of Technology, Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, federal university Lokoja, Federal University Wukari, Kogi State University Anyigba, and University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
