Court orders OSSIEC to go ahead with LG Election

The Osun State High Court sitting in Ilesa, has ordered the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, (OSSIEC), to conduct elections into the positions of local government chairmen and councilors in all the 30 local government areas and the area office in Osun State. Addressing a press conference, the state Attorney General and commissioner of Justice, Hon. Jimi-Bada, said the order was made on Friday, 21st of February, 2025, sequel to a suit brought before the court by the People’s Democratic Party, one of the political parties participating in the election. 

 

The court further directed and compelled all the security agencies, comprising the Police, the DSS, Nigeria Army, including the the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency NDLEA, the Amotekun Corps, the Vigilante group, and others in the state to provide adequate security, during and after the election. The order came at a time the OSSIEC has concluded arrangements for the local government election, slated for tomorrow Saturday 22nd February 2025

 

One of the political parties registered to participate in the election, the Action Peoples Party, APP, berated stand of the Attorney General of the Federation that the local government election should be suspended, while the chairman of state lnter party advisory committee, IPAC expressed confidence in the state electoral umpire.
