FG Dissolves Governing Council Of Nnamdi Azikwe University

 

The Federal Government has announced the dissolution of the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikwe University, Awka, Anambra State, following the grave breeches of the law governing the University and the disregard for lawful directives from the Federal Ministry of Education.

The decision comes after it was discovered that the Chairman of the Governing Council, unilaterally appointed a Vice Chancellor, who failed to meet up with the minimum eligibility criteria for the position. This led to the breakdown of law and order in the institution, causing tension and disharmony.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in a statement issued by the Director of Information of the Ministry, Folasade Boriowo, emphasized that urgent measures were needed to avoid further deterioration of the situation at the Nnamdi Azikwe University, as the illegal decision taken by the Governing Council posed a significant risk of further distabilizing the University.

The Minister announced the dissolution of the council led by Ambassador Greg Ozumba Mbadiwe, who is the Pro- Chancellor and other members while the Vice Chancellor, Prof.Berard Odoh has also been removed with immediate effects.

In another Development, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tunji Alausa, has announced the reassigning of the Pro Chancellors and Chairmen of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Oye -Ekiti and Lokoja. This according to the Minister is to enhance cohesion and improve Governance of these institutions

Following the approval by President Bola Tinubu, the swapping involves Senator Victor Ndoma Egba SAN being reassigned as the Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Federal University, Oye -Ekiti while Engr. Kayode Ojo, will assume the same role at the Federal University, Lokoja. The swapping was necessitated due to the discovery that Engr. Ojo is an indigene of Ekiti State which is not in line with the ministry's intention to ensure national cohesion.
