The Federal government is set to construct five hundred housing unit in Ogun state for victims affected by flood in the year 2018.

The Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Kayode Fagbemi made this known during the visit to the proposed site of the project in Abeokuta.

Correspondent John Felix reports that the effect of flood in Ogun state occasioned by heavy rainfall in 2018 led to the loss of lives and property; hence the intervention by the Federal Government.

Addressing journalists after inspecting the project site in the Soyoye area of Ogun state, the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Kayode Fagbemi explained that the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic delayed the take-off of the project in 2020.

He said the project was part of the Federal government's efforts to find a lasting solution to flood, thereby relocating the people from flood-prone areas.

Fagbemi added that the federal government through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had also provided some relief materials to the people affected after the visit of the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo to cushion the effect on the victims.

Speaking further, Fagbemi said the project would further enhance the socio-economic development of the area when completed.

He noted that the funds for the project had been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On his part, Ogun state Commissioner for Housing, Jagumolu Omoniyi said the collaboration between the federal and state government would go a long way to mitigate the effect of the flood on the people.
