Nigerian Women laud Tinubu for DSS for first Female Deputy DG Appointment.

Nigerian women have applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to gender inclusivity following the appointment of Ms. Folashade Adekaiyaoja as the first-ever Deputy Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The appointment, approved in January based on the recommendation of DSS Director General Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, aims to enhance operational efficiency within the agency.

A coalition of women-led Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) visited the DSS headquarters in Abuja to commend the leadership for breaking barriers in security sector appointments.

Led by the Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, the delegation included representatives from the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS), Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria (FOMWAN), Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and Association of Women in Trade and Agriculture (AWITA).

Speaking at the meeting, the Minister praised the decision as a testament to President Tinubu’s dedication to gender balance in governance.

She noted that it takes a visionary leader to promote women saying President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated this commitment, as seen in his continued support for his wife even after leaving office as Governor of Lagos State.

The Minister also acknowledged the DSS leadership for fostering a more inclusive and secure workplace just as she applauded the agency’s zero-tolerance policy on gender-based violence, the provision of a safe and well-equipped childcare facility, and initiatives aimed at supporting the families of retired and fallen security personnel.
