Insecurity: Senate, Service Chiefs Locked in Emergency Meeting
The Nigerian Senate is right about now locked in a crucial meeting with the Service Chiefs in order to be briefed on measures in place to contain the present insecurity in the country.
Along with the Service Chiefs are the Directors General of the Department of State Services DSS, the National Intelligence Agency NIA, Defence Intelligence Agency and the Inspector General of Police.
Galaxy's Godfrey Eshiemoghie reports that this emergency interface with the heads of the country's security agencies is holding two days later than earlier scheduled.
Senate President, Ahmad Lawan in an address expressed confidence in the ability of the country's armed forces to address the current national security concerns.
The meeting earlier scheduled for Tuesday had to shift on account of a National Security Council Meeting being held at the Presidential Villa.
The Upper Legislative Chamber had in a resolution on 27 April summoned the Service Chiefs to brief lawmakers on steps taken so far to address the worsening insecurity in the country.
This resolution was sequel to a motion by Niger East Senator, Sani Musa against the backdrop of activities of bandits and terrorists in some local governments in his state and other parts of the country.
