Legal Practitioners call for high level of professionalism and security and Anti-Graft Agencies
As the battle between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and the immediate past Governor of Kogi State continue, Security and Anti-Graft Agencies have been urged on the need to be professional and operate within the provisions of the law.
A coalition of Concerned Lawyers who made the appeal in Abuja while speaking with Journalists on upholding the Rule of Law, Abuse of Executive and Prosecutorial Power, in relation to the matter of Yaya Bello, said the whole scenario showcase strong suspicion of vendetta.
Speaking on behalf of the League of Lawyers, Jesutega Onokpasa, maintained that while the public was being misled into the erroneous impression that the EFCC was trying to fight corruption, it is actually just a pretense in furtherance of a personal vendetta on behalf of, and, at the behest of persons in government intent on the bastardization of institutions of state.
They described the action of the Commission as unprofessional and quite shameful for presently seeking to provide the cause of justice by litigating a matter before the legal court of law in the legal court of public opinion.
The Legal Practitioners frowned against weaponizing an agency of government into an instrument of intimidation, and deviating from his mandate, even to the extent of giving the highly disturbing impression that is as decomposing to a willing tool in the hands of people in power for the purpose of holding their political enemies. They advised Yahaya Bello to present himself when a legal invitation letter is sent to him, as a law abiding citizen.
