Reps Adjourns, To Reconvene On Nov 19
The House of Representatives has announced a recess, with plans to reconvene on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
This recess will allow Honourable Members to conduct essential oversight of various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure accountability on behalf of the Nigerian people.
In a statement issued on Monday,House spokesman, Hon. Akin Rotimi, shared that this decision was initially conveyed to members during the plenary on October 30, 2024, by Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen. Further clarification was provided today by the Clerk of the House, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, on the directive of the House Leadership.
“As we approach year-end, this oversight period is crucial for evaluating MDA performance, enhancing accountability and efficiency in the public sector, and fulfilling our responsibility to Nigerians. I urge all Members to undertake this task with the commitment it deserves,” Speaker Abbas stated.
The Speaker also called on MDAs to fully cooperate with lawmakers, in line with the Constitution and House Standing Orders, to facilitate thorough evaluations.
The public should note that this recess impacts only House plenary sessions; other legislative duties, such as constituency outreach, committee meetings, and budget preparation consultations, will proceed as scheduled.
The 10th Assembly remains dedicated to transparency, accountability, and addressing the needs of Nigerians.
