Maina's Trial Adjourned Till 21 December for No Case Submission

Former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina now has another day in court after collapsing Thursday at the resumed hearing on a case of alleged money laundering.

Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had Thursday agreed to give Maina 21 December as another shot in his attempt to prove that the anti-graft agency, the EFCC, has no case against him with regard to the 12-count charge involving the sum of N2billion.

In a bench ruling, Justice Abang said he is, in the interest of fair hearing, granting an opportunity for the first defendant to make a no-case submission.

This comes after accusing Maina's lawyer, Anayo Adibe of unethical conduct citing his application for records of proceedings to enable him to file his no-case submission describing that as an attempt to delay hearing on the case.

Abang said he would have made a foreclosure on a no-case submission after the defendant's lawyer had done so twice and failed, but Thursday's event involving the defendant prompted his having a rethink thus giving him another opportunity.
