NEMA Celebrates Disaster Risk Management Day With Sensitization
As the world celebrates the 2024 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, National emergency management agency North west zone brings together major stakeholders and youths to engage them in an interactive session for public awareness on disaster management.
The event which was held in Kaduna with Theme “Empowering the Next Generation For a Resilient Future” is on the role of education in protecting and empowering youth for a disaster-free future.
NEMA Zonal Coordinator, Abbani Imam Garki in his welcome address, said the IDRR Day is a global event set aside to create awareness to the public for proactive measures towards disaster risk management.
He said, engaging the youths in DRR is of paramount importance being that they are the future generations, so the youth are the targeted tools in achieving and making a resilient generations.
Abbani said, part of the agency’s strategy is to utilize the youths be it at the secondary schools and tertiary institutions level, catch them young and groom them to serve as vital tools in public awareness towards disaster management.
He further commended their teachers for doing a great job despite the herculean task in impacting knowledge and character, in other to be productive for a desired goal.
During the event, two paper presentations were delivered, the first by NEMA NWZ Head of DRR Unit, Ikramat Umar and the second paper was presented by the International Origination for Migration (IOM), Field Operation Assistant in Kaduna, Ganiyat AbdulSalam respectively.
