Nigeria@ 59: VP Osinbajo says Nigeria not a hopeless case
Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo says Nigeria is still redeemable, irrespective of the challenges facing it.
The Vice President who spoke at an interdenominational church service to mark the 59th anniversary of Nigeria at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, Sunday, likened Nigeria to the Israelites whom God directed to be taken to the Promised Land but encountered challenges on their way.
According to the VP, the Promised Land God was taking the country to, would be devoid of tribal differences or ethnic bias, especially where citizens will harp on them to create separatist tendencies.
In a remark, Former Head of State, Gen Yakubu Gowon, acknowledged that Nigeria was facing daunting challenges cutting across insecurity, economy among others, but said there was still hope of overcoming the problems.
In his homily, General Secretary Ekklesiya Yan'uwa a Nigeria, Reverend Daniel Mbaya attributed, social, economic and security crisis facing the country to lack of peaceful coexistence, saying that at 59 the nation, is frost with circle of violence with cultism, kidnapping terrorism being the order of the day.
Other Nigerians joined the clergyman in the admonition saying Nigeria has the capacity to be great only if its leaders take it as a responsibility to carry the youthful population along in all their planning and policies.
The event which had prominent Nigerians, including diplomats in attendance saw most of them offering prayers for the growth and peaceful co-existence of Nigerians
Among government officials present at the ceremony includes, Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, Ministers of Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, Labour, Chris Ngige, Budget and National Planning, Clement Agba, Service Chiefs, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha among others.
Nigeria will officially mark its 59th independence anniversary on Tuesday, October 1st, 2019.
