Scrap SARS, Nigerians cry out
Days after the #ENDSARS campaign raged on social media, scores of Nigerians on Monday converged at the Freedom Park in Lagos to partake in one of several rallies holding nationwide demanding the urgent scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
It all started a fortnight ago, when cases of extrajudicial killings carried out by some SARS officials emerged online.
It did not take long for Nigerians to join in condemning what they described as the highhandedness and abuse by SARS, until it became a major storm campaign online.
Many Nigerians who took to Twitter and other social media sites shared their experiences accusing SARS of indulging in inhumane acts including extortion, killings and torture.
Concerned with the public outcry, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris ordered the immediate reorganisation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad across the country. But the campaigners insisted the anti robbery squad must be scrapped.
The group of protesters are also annoyed that the presidency is yet to speak on the matter inspite the public outcry.
