IGP launches special intervention squad

The inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has launched a Special Intervention Squad (SIS), to curtail activities of kidnappers and other criminal element terrorising the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and the nation at large.

The SIS launched is for special operations deployed to all the area councils in the FCT and simultaneously launched in some states across the country.

Galaxy Tv reports that the IGP disclosed that ,the team was made up well-trained officers who are specially trained and prepared to tackle issues of abduction.
The deployment, according to him included officers from the tactical units from the Force, helicopter, drones, specialised vehicles, and K9, among others.

The IGP who expressed deep concern over the unfortunate events in Abuja said the new Special Intervention Squad would be deployed to tackle emerging threats to curb such heinous crimes.

The Police boss reiterated that the operation is more than a mere response saying it is a bold strategy aimed at dismantling the criminal networks entrenched in the communities.
The IGP emphasized the need for a coordinated and intelligence-driven approach to address the evolving security landscape.

Recall that kidnappers had recently taken over Abuja villages, where they have been wreaking havoc in places like Bwari, Dei Dei, Dutse, and Mpape, among other villages in the FCT.
