Ondo Women Stage Walk against Rape
The coalition of women societies in Ondo state has staged a peaceful walk against rape.
The women took to the streets of Akure, the Ondo state capital condemning the recent increase in rape cases across Nigeria.
Women societies in Ondo state led by the federation of women lawyers, FIDA expressed their dissatisfaction with the way women are being raped and killed in the process.
They charged Ondo state government to domesticate Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, VAPP law in the state to ease the process of prosecution of rape cases and other human abuse incidents.
Reacting on behalf of the state government, the attorney general of Ondo state, Kola Olawoye SAN said the state executive council is not happy with such development in the state and is currently working on a bill which will enact a law against rapist in the state.
An Akure based human right lawyer, Sir Charles Titiloye who joined the women in the walk against rape said rape is an infringement of rights of women and which must be condemned in its totality.
He called on all human right crusaders to rise up and wage war against rapist all over the world.
Meanwhile, parents especially mothers were charged by the attorney general, Kola Olawoye to devote more time to their girl child to safeguard them from unduly defilement.
