Pensioners protest non payment of entitlements
Some pensioners in Rivers State have staged a peaceful protest to the venue of the civil servant thanksgiving service at the state secretariat, Port Harcourt appealing to the governor of the state, Nyesom Wike to pay them their entitlements.
Speaking at the secretariat complex in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, some of the pensioners said all efforts made to get their arrears paid are yet to yield results, calling on the state government to attend to their predicaments on time.
Reacting to the protest, the state head of service, Rufus Godwins stressed that no pensioner is owed anything and described it as an arranged protest.
The protesting pensioners, however, urged the governor to pay them their arrears while they are alive, adding that their action was prompted by a newspaper publication stating that all entitlements have been cleared.
