Reps Move To Establish Medical Centre In Isanlu, Kogi State

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a bill to amend the Federal Medical Centres (Establishment) Act, No. 33, 2022, to provide for the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in Isanlu, Yagba East, Kogi State.

Leading the debate, the sponsor of the bill, Hon. Leke Abejide, emphasized the urgent need for the medical centre, noting that Yagba East currently lacks a federal healthcare facility.

He explained that residents are forced to travel long distances for quality healthcare, resulting in healthcare disparities in the region.

According to Abejide, establishing the medical centre would provide access to specialized medical services, improve health outcomes, and reduce the burden on existing healthcare facilities in Kogi State.

The project is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Isanlu and surrounding areas.

In a related development, the House also passed for second reading a bill to establish the National Vocational Training Centre in all 774 local government areas in Nigeria.

The bill aims to provide comprehensive management and administration for the proposed centres. The sponsor of the bill, Hon. Joseph Folorunsho Adegbesan, argued that the initiative would enhance skill development and empower citizens with vocational training opportunities across the country.
