Senate Joins Reps, Passes Bill to Reintroduce Old National Anthem
The Nigerian Senate has passed the National Anthem Bill 2024 to revert to the old national anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee”.
The Upper Legislative Chamber passed the bill after considering a report by Tahir Monguno, the chairman of the judiciary committee.
While presenting his report, Senator Monguno said his committee disagreed with the position of Lateef Fagbemi, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), that the process to change the anthem should be subjected to a wider process.
GALAXY TV reports that after the clauses consideration of the bill, Senate passed it for the third reading.
The piece of legislation now awaits assent into law by President Bola Tinubu.
