Trial of former CBN Governor begins at FCT High Court
Trial of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele for alleged procurement fraud has kicked off, with the anti-graft agency calling three witnesses.
Emefiele faces six count charge of alleged procurement fraud in the sum of N1.6billion for the procurement of luxury vehicles and giving corrupt advantage to one Saadatu Yaro, a staff of the CBN.
At the commencement of trial on Tuesday, three witnesses were called and we're crossed examined by the Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and that of the defendant.
One of the three witnesses called by the anti-graft agency, the EFCC is a Deputy Director of the CBN who was secretary of the Major Contracts Tenders Committee.
He disclosed that the contract in which the former CBN Governor is being tried for has no backing of the appropriate committee,.which he was the secretary before he retired.
