Smart Adeyemi, has been sworn-in as Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District after he was administered the oath of office at plenary this Wednesday.

Adeyemi, who was administered the oath replaces Dino Melaye whom he defeated in both the November 16 rerun election and November 30 supplementary poll in and as such declared winner by the national electoral body INEC.

With Adeyemi's inclusion , the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is still in firm control of the red chamber with 63 members, followed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with 45 senators and the Young People’s Party (YPP), represented by Sen. Ifeanyi Uba.

Adeyemi was first elected Senator in 2007 and served for eight years till 2015 with Melaye replacing him at the Senate after the 2015 election.
