The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup kicks off tomorrow in Costa Rica, with Nigeria flagging off their title bid with a crunch Group D match with China on Sunday night in Alajuela.
Coach Bala Nikyu said that his girls are up to the task to challenge for the ultimate prize, stating that they were not under any pressure going into the match with the Chinese, who have a strong track record in women football.
THANK U ALL..Flamingos players acknowledging cheers from the fans after beating Chile 5-0 in the ongoing FIFA U-17 Championship in Trinidad and Tobago. They play South Korea today
“There is nothing like pressure, you must have watched the attitude of the players, they have been very free and lively, the coaches and officials are very free with themselves, so I think considering the cooperation, the team should get a good result against China and the other teams in our group.”
While tipping the team to surpass their previous record at the World Cup, the Flamingoes coach assured that the team will bring joy and honor to the faces of Nigerians.
We can assure Nigerians that we are prepared, the team spirit is high and are ready for the World Cup; we are ready to play as the team’s spirit is good. The only thing we ask for is goodluck to succeed in Costa Rica.”
