FCT Police Command commences enforcement of Vehicle Insurance
In line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced the enforcement of the mandatory minimum Third-Party Motor Vehicle Insurance from February 1, 2025.
According to a statement released by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, all vehicle owners in the FCT must possess a valid Third-Party Insurance policy before operating on public roads.
It added that Motorists without valid insurance are advised to obtain coverage immediately to avoid penalties.
The Police maintained that third-Party Insurance is a legally required policy designed to protect road users from financial losses caused by accidents, as It covers, damages to another person’s vehicle or property, bodily injury sustained by accident victims
This policy ensures that victims receive necessary compensation while easing the financial burden on vehicle owners.
The FCT Police Command warned that failure to comply with this legal requirement will attract strict enforcement measures adding that, this initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance road safety and protect all road users.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Olatunji Disu, has directed officers involved in the enforcement to be professional, courteous, and firm in their duties.
He emphasized that harassment or extortion of motorists will not be tolerated.
The general public are urged to cooperate with the police, as this enforcement is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of all road users in the FCT.
