Court Remands Seven Suspects for Kidnapping
An Ibadan Chief Magistrate Court has remanded seven suspects allegedly involved in the kidnap of the twins of an Islamic Cleric Alhaji Taofeek Akewugbagold at the Office of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ibadan.
The suspects, who were alleged to have committed the offence on April 25, this year are Mohammed Bashir 33, Oyeleye Opeyemi 25, Olumide Ajala 36, Taiwo Rildwan 30, Rafiu Mutiu 35, Fatai Akanji 49, and Rafiu Modinat 29.
Arraigning the suspects, Police Prosecutor, Adegboye Olusegun said the suspects after they kidnapped the twins also collected four million Naira as ransom from the father of their victims.
Facing five counts charge, fifth defendant, Rafiu Mutiu and sixth defendants, Rafiu Modinat were also accused of allowing others to use their house to be used to keep the twins.
Correspondent Kunle Ojo reports that only sixth defendant Fatai Akanji has legal representation while others had no lawyers while their plea was not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel Idowu, therefore ordered that the suspects be kept at the Office of Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Disbelief and adjourned the case till October 12 for mention.
