EFCC arraigns Obiano before Abuja High Court
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Wednesday arraigned the immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano before Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The former Governor was arraigned on a none count charge over alleged money laundering to the tune of N4,008,573,350.
Obiano was accused to have moved N4,008,573,350 from security votes into different accounts. The money at various times was changed into dollars and returned to Obiano by cash.
GALAXYTV reports that Obiano, who made was brought into the court premises amidst right security pleaded not guilty to all the charge that were read to him by the Prosecution Counsel, Slyvanus Tahir.
The Prosecution Counsel therefore asked the court for a date for trail adding that he should be remanded in prison custody pending his trial.
Tahir added that he will be inviting 15 witnesses with credible evidence to support the nine count charge against the former Governor.
On his part, Counsel to the former Governor, Onyechi Ipeazu, brought an application for Obiano's administrative bail, which was taken by the court.
After a brief argument, Justice Nyang Ekwo, granted the former Governor administrative, which forbade him from travelling outside the jurisdiction of the court as well as depositing his international passport with the Court.
Justice Ekwo, however adjourned the matter to March 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th, 2024 for trial.
He ordered the Prosecution Counsel to inform the immigration that Obiano's International Passport is with the Court.
Counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission spoke on the administrative bail granted to Obiano by the court.
