Reps Urge NCC To Block Websites Hosting Obscene Contents

Meanwhile the House of Representatives has urged the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) to direct Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to block websites hosting obscene and pornographic content.
They also called on the NCC to enforce the Nigerian Communications Act and the National Information Technology Development Act against defaulting ISPs.
This followed a motion by Hon. Dalhatu Tafoki from Katsina State, who noted that cyber pornography is a growing global issue with no concrete measures taken in Nigeria to curb it.
He warned that viewing such content can lead to deception in marriage, promote adultery and prostitution, create unrealistic expectations, and encourage promiscuous behavior and addiction.
Additionally, a bill to recognize and protect human rights defenders and strengthen the government’s capacity to safeguard them passed its second reading.
Sponsored by Hon. Abiola Makinde and Hon. Mudasiru Lukman, the debate was led by Hon. Makinde.
