Zakzaky: IMN express cautious optimism after court

Following a Kaduna High Court judgment giving leave for Shi’ite leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky to embark on medical trip to India, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria is expressing cautious optimism that the Nigerian govt. may obey this latest court order.

The group says it is monitoring situation closely owing to the failure of the Muhammadu Buhari-led govt. to obey previous court judgments ordering his release from DSS custody.

In a chat with Galaxy’s Godfrey Eshiemoghie in Abuja, Abdulrahman Abubakar, a member of the Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee, said the group has seen a statement emanating from the Department of State Services DSS indicating commitment to comply with the court ruling to allow Zakzaky embark on the medical trip abroad.

But owing to the failing health of the Islamic cleric, he may require to be flown abroad by an air ambulance.

And Mallam Abubakar said preparing the logistics in this respect may likely constitute a slight delay in his embarking on the long-awaited medical trip to India.

It will be recalled that Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky and his wife Zeenat, were taken into custody in late 2015 after a military raid on their stronghold of Gyellesu, in Zaria city of Kaduna State.

And the series of protests calling for his release had resulted in bloody clashes by the Shi’ite group and security operatives, often resulting in loss of lives and destruction of property.
