2 Policemen Killed As Gunmen Invade Anambra Police Station
Two policemen in the early hours of Monday lost their lives when gunmen suspected to be members of the Proscribed Indigenous people of Biafra IPOB stormed the Umunze police station in Anambra state with an improvised explosive device, while shooting sporadically and razing some of the buildings.
The Anambra police command spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga in a statement, said the armed men invaded the police facilities in their numbers and threw explosive devices which left part of the station on fire, as two policemen on duty lost their lives in an encounter with the hoodlums.
According to the police, the state police commissioner CP Nnaghe Obono reinforced to the scene as the suspected IPOB members already scampered for safety.
The police commissioner CP Nnaghe Obono called on anyone with useful information to that will aid the investigation to come forward as he assures utmost confidentiality to anyone that toe the line for the betterment of the state.
Five unexploded improvise explosive devices were recovered at the premises of the police station when the CP led the reinforced team to the assess the buildings.
