Delta police command arrest fake soldier
Operatives of the Delta state police command unit code-named Operation Safer Highway led by SP Onubi Joseph have arrested a 35-yr-old fake soldier Gideon Iliya with an ash-coloured Toyota corolla car with a Lagos registration number along the Sapele/Benin highway.
The suspect, who claimed to be an Army officer to prevent suspicion from the police, is said to be the ring-leader of car snatching syndicate who specialized in stealing vehicles from where they are parked within Delta state.
In a statement made available to Galaxy news by the Delta police spokesperson Onome Onowakpoyeya says the suspect claimed the car belonged to his friend from the Nigerian Army 3 battalion in Warri, but investigation showed he stole the vehicle from a compound at Effurun near Warri.
Items recovered from the suspect include an Army jingle hat, one army T-shirt, a bunch of keys and an Army identity card bearing his name.
The suspect and a member of his gang are currently cooling their heels at the state Anti-cult unit of the state police command for discreet interrogation according to the Delta police image-maker.
